The Mt. Kerr track starts from a prominent creek at a bend in the Little Wainihinihi Hydro Road and follows a fairly well-defined ridge all the way. The route continues up through the tussock to trig point 1281m and from here there is a steep ridge climb to Mt. Kerr.

Steve and I only did a day tramp on this one. It took us three attempts. The first attempt was canned as we had too much to drink the night before and spent the next day on the back porch with one hell of a hangover. The next attempt was canned due to bad weather. We couldn't even see the mountains. Finally one beautiful Saturday morning after rechecking the weather report.... we were off.
